Text Box: This is a simple competition. Basically all you have to do is supply us with your best and most imaginative definition of what GAP is. This can either be using something as a descriptive metaphor for GAP or it can simply be a fantastical written piece. You can base it on what your gap year was like, what your first thoughts were when you went for your interview, or just how you imagine your GAP year will turn out. Whether its about the interview and the interviewers themselves, or whether it is about the quirky old GAP House or simply a made up story about what you'll get up to on your gap year, it can be anything. Quite simply, the choice is yours.
Write away!

Text Box: To get you started and just in case you think no one could be worse than you, I'll give you an example of my own piece posted on the mygap forums. Seeing as it's currently the only example, it's also this months winner. I make the rules so I win! I'll also win next month if no one enters.

Text Box: GAP is like... ordering a cheesecake, you never know quite what its going to be like. What with the different chef's styles, the atmosphere in which it has been kept, the lingering taste of the preceding meal and the different toppings. However one thing is guaranteed; its going to be absolutely bloody gorgeous.

To explain - the GAP year is the cheesecake, its a well known thing, but people don't always think of it until the menu is in front of them. People who have already had it instantly love it (unless they hate cheese and biscuit base - but that's just like disliking being away from home and disliking new ways of living). The cheesecake (or GAP year) is a delicate mix of very fine ingredients, that together produce something very strong in its own right. It is affected by the person that puts it together and serves it up to you, of course this is essentially yourself and GAP. GAP being the best damn Chefs around. The atmosphere the cheesecake is kept at is just like the all round being of your country. The weather, the natural disasters, the world politics, everything that has a bearing on the country. The lingering taste of the meal before - it always affects the pudding. If you've had something particularly strong or horrific happen in the year/meal before, it will affect things, and it will resurface, but my does that creamy, soft and sweet taste of cheesecake cover it up. If you've had something just glorious happen then you'll just continue riding that high, either way it all gets a hell of a lot better once u reach this crème de la crème of life. Finally onto the toppings. The added extras. Raspberry sauce? Chocolate sauce? Mandarin? Cream? You certainly worry about it before it arrives. Will you like the Mandarin? Will the Raspberry be too sour? Is Cream too sweet? Whatever it is you choose, if the Chef is good, its a perfect compliment. GAP aren't just good, they are amazing, Gourmet GAP if you will. The toppings just about make the GAP year. They are unbeatable. The friends you make from the fellow GAPpers, the friends you meet there, the kids you teach, the animals you see, the culture you experience. It will always be different, but it will definitely add that extra brilliant kick.

Basically what ever happens your cheesecake will always be brilliant, even if its not as good as someone else's (which never happens). Just like the GAP year. Just sit back and trust that those endorsements, those Michelin stars, are very very well earnt.
